Brenda Novak’s auction for diabetes research is legendary by now. Why? Check out her amazing items for readers, writers or just folks who want to take a great vacation. This year I’m donating two of the last first-edition copies of Lord of the Night in existence. Links are here and here. A RITA-winner that’s been out of print for years! Autographed by my favorite author, too!

And here’s an autographed advance reading copy of Lakeshore Christmas

If you’re a writer, you can bid on a meeting with an agent or editor. If you’re a reader, try for lunch with a famous author. Come on, do something good for you–for Brenda–for diabetes research.

Speaking of winners…another selection: It’s Terry! She gets the radio and the book. Time for a new drawing. I have a signed Just Breathe and a spare copy of a book I was sent for endorsement, a wonderful memoir called Remember the Sweet Things by Ellen Green. To put your name in the hat, go to Brenda’s auction and name your favorite auction item in the Comments section.

There’s exactly one copy available. At Brenda’s fundraiser auction for diabetes. You have to do it now, though. It’s a one-day item. Bidding opens the 22nd and closes the 23rd. Go for it!

It’s that time of year again. The tireless Brenda Novak–writer, friend, and mother to a boy living with diabetes–is holding her annual auction to benefit diabetes research. I’m offering up my garden guest house for a weekend at the beach on Puget Sound. Last year, this item was enjoyed by a writers’ group who had met online, and had never been together in person. They had perfect weather and a great time. Here’s some information from Brenda. Knock yourself out and check out the offerings. There’s something for everyone–that’s a promise.

sunrise at the beachDon’t miss Brenda Novak’s 4th Annual On-line Auction May 1 – May 31st at There will be nearly 1300 items, many of which you can’t find anywhere else, and something for every budget from a drumhead signed by a whole slew of famous music artists (Michael Jackson, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Justin Timberlake, Bruce Springstein, Madonna and too many others to list) to a treasure trove of fun items donated by aspiring author Lauren Hawkeye. In addition, aspiring novelists can bid on evaluations from some of the most powerful agents and editors in the business—some with the promise of a 24-hour response (unheard of in the publishing industry). And for the person who places the highest number of bids over all (even if that person doesn’t win a single item) a fabulous prize package that includes a brand new camcorder (worth over $1000). Don’t miss this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Go to to register and receive a $10 gift certificate to use toward your auction purchases.

I made a donation to Brenda’s auction. The winning bidder gets a weekend stay in my guest house, where you’ll see I’m not exaggerating about “The View From Here.” I’ll even make you cranberry-orange muffins for breakfast and take you for a boat ride, weather permitting. You can hide away and work on Brenda & Thadyour novel, take a walk on the beach to the day spa or just hang out and do nothing, which is way underrated, if you ask me. So take a look at Brenda’s auction and make a bid on this or other fabulous items. Why? Because she’s raising money to find a cure for juvenile diabetes. I learned quite a bit about Type 2 diabetes (the auction is for Type 1 but everyone can benefit) while writing Lakeside Cottage; the disease touches so many lives. I can’t begin to tell you how important this is, so I’ll let Brenda tell you herself:

Help Brenda Novak make a difference to her son and others suffering from diabetes—shop at her 3rd Annual On-line Auction, May 1 – May 31st at where you can bid on over 600 items, many of which can’t be found anywhere else. It’s easy (works like E-Bay), it’s fun, and all the money goes to research. As an added incentive, the person who places the most bids over all will win a $1500 prize package that includes a brand new laptop computer and a digital camera. So bid early and bid often! Here’s just a sample of what you’ll find:
