This is my donation to a grass-roots movement to help a beautiful friend & neighbor in her battle against cancer. Learn more about this insane swim-around-the-island, and see photos by Pete Saloutos here:

please buy this book - all proceeds go to charityMy publisher is reissuing More Than Words and I hope you’ll buy a copy. I won’t make a penny from the sale but I don’t care. This project is more important than book royalties, which all go to charity. My proceeds are for Cottage Dreams, founded by the incredible Seana O’Neill. I’m so glad I got to do this project, and I love the reissue. I adore my two co-authors, Sharon Sala and Emilie Richards. Maybe it’s hormones, but I got all choked up over this reader feedback, sent via my web site. The time stamp was 3:46 a.m.

Note: Cottage Dreams is always in need of contributions. You can donate here. Also, the reader above posted a link to her daughter’s story (via Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital) and a benefit fund for her daughter. Please e-mail me via my web site if you would like to send a contribution there.

My friend Pete took this stunning picture one morning. Arms around Bainbridge benefit swim, photo by Pete Saloutos

He’s a key organizer of Arms Around Bainbridge, an athletic event and benefit for Olivia Carey, a beloved islander suffering from ovarian cancer. I feel so lucky to live in a place where people take care of each other in creative ways. It’s a perfect example of how a person can use his gift and his passion. to help someone.

Last year I wrote a story to benefit Cottage Dreams, an organization that gives cancer victims a week in a rustic lakeside cottage. The topic was tailor made for me–a lakeside cottage? I am so there. I’m proud to have a publisher that gives authors an opportunity to use their gifts and passions to help others.
