I've enjoyed seeing The Donald annually at the Surrey Writer's Conference. He's a great speaker. My very first agent pitch was to this man. I was terrified and very, very pregnant. The entire time I was talking to him I was actually having labour pains but didn't want to blow my pitch by telling him LOL.

Donald is a great speaker, too. I've enjoyed his presentations, keynotes, but have never had the opportunity to attend one of his classes. I'll buy this next book, tho.

Ironic! I just started reading this book - like 3-4 hours before I read this post.

...and after my extensive research (I have read all of 4 pages!), I am thinking it has a sharp, caustic edge.

Normally that irritates me - but as I read, I realize - that's how my grandad made hominey - he used a caustic agent to remove the tough outer shell and bring out the tender heart in the center of the kernal of corn.

So I am more than willing to take a caustic bath - If that is what it takes!

Great post, Susan.

I attended Donald's two-day workshop called Writing the Breakout Novel in Boston in 2004 and couldn't agree with you more. He does make you look long and hard at your writing. I often yank his book down to flip through it and I STILL read and re-read the two pages of notes I took from that workshop when I need to be inspired.
